“Everyone’s to blame, by the way.” ~ Kathleen Parker
In a recent article by Kathleen Parker, noted right-wing, ultra conservative columnist for the Washington Post, she suggested that “for our country” among many other reasons that Sarah Palin should step down. And as we all know, there are many other reasons for Sarah Palin to do so.
Today, Kathleen Parker writes about the responses she got to that piece. She starts out by saying:
“Allow me to introduce myself. I am a traitor and an idiot. Also, my mother should have aborted me and left me in a dumpster, but since she didn’t, I should “off” myself.
Who says public discourse hasn’t deteriorated?
The fierce reaction to my column has been both bracing and enlightening. After 20 years of column writing, I’m familiar with angry mail. But the past few days have produced responses of a different order. Not just angry, but vicious and threatening.”
I too have been threatened. Of course, by anonymous (cowardly and petty) people. Just today another (semi-anonymous) wordpress blogger was mocking me for my anonymity and my “about” page.
The Un-Tied States of America should really consider removing the word “United” out of the name. We are NOT United. We are becoming an international embarrassment. We are seen as bickering, greedy, short-sighted warmongers. But that is not all of us, and it certainly is not me.
These are sad days for US. I am an eternal optimist, but even I think this is going to get worse before it gets better.
